Preschool Courses
The preschool provides a curriculum
based education to prepare children ages three to five years old for
Kindergarten and beyond. We concentrate on the social, emotional, physical,
cognitive and language developmental needs of the children. Learning activities
are centered around hands on experiences and are based on the children’s
current interest.
Trained in formal curricula including Creative Curriculum, Highscope, Reggio
Emilio, and the Emergent Curriculum, our teachers use a blended teaching style
that allows them to customize activities and lessons for the interests and
natural curiosity of the students. This flexible creative teaching method
maintains excitement, promotes problem solving skills and encourages an inquisitive
approach to learning. It also allows us to leverage the years
of experience of our teachers and management team to incorporate the
very best of proven curriculums and developmentally appropriate practices.
The preschool student to teacher ratio is between 8:1 to 9:1, which is much
lower than the state mandated ratio of 15:1, once again providing more
individualized attention and educational experience.
Each classroom is equipped with different learning centers to promote learning
through play and to stimulate the natural curiosity of the children. The
learning centers include:
- creative art
- home living
- computer
- dramatic play center
- math
- language
- science
- building block stations and other hands-on toys
Our classrooms reflect an exciting collaborative learning style and offer our
preschoolers a state of the art environment in which to learn and grow.
Our goal is to develop the whole child so they are ready for Kindergarten
personally, socially and academically. When they graduate from The Chastain
School, they are prepared to enter any elementary school program be it private
or public.
